There are quite a few grills on the market that all do just about the same thing… they cook food. The difference with the Weber Genesis e-310 is that it takes a slightly different approach and offers a whole new way to grill your food. In this review I will go over some of the things that many people (including myself) like about this grill as well as touch on some of the things people did not like about it. By the time you are done reading this review you will know if this grill is a good choice for you.
The Weber Genesis E-310 Grill Lowdown
Alright, let’s jump right into it… like I said before there are plenty of gas grills on the market today, but Weber has done something quite different with theirs that really makes it stand out. They have designed it with the average griller in mind who is focused on quality rather than price.
You will notice as you browse your local grill store that many of the manufacturers out there try to offer too many bells and whistles with their grills. They add things that you will more than likely never use, and I guess that is great for some people, but not for those of us who want a quality grill for their home that is simple and does one thing well… cook food.
What Weber did was create a gas grill that will not only cook food well, but will also last a long time. I may sound a little biased here, but Weber does make some of the best grills out there and they have been around since the early days when grilling was just getting started so I think that they know what they are doing.
Anyway, this grill is built with some pretty good parts like a stainless steel burner and a cast iron grill grate, but they have also went ahead and welded their frames together which is not something you see on a lot of grills these days.
I was browsing Home Depot the other day looking at grills to compare for this review and I noticed that most of them where quite flimsy and did not hold a candle to the Genesis E-310 grill, mainly because the body’s where just riveted or tack welded together. When anything is just tacked together it will usually not last more than a few years before it falls apart and you need to buy a new one, so it is worth it to check out the e-310.
Now, the Genesis e-310 has been around for a few years and Weber recently re-designed this grill to make it better. They moved the control knobs so that they are located right where you would expect them to be and the burners have been moved as well.
This makes things like indirect grilling much easier because the burners now run from front to back and you can shut off one side of the grill when you are indirectly grilling something like chicken or pork. This is a really useful feature in my book because I do a lot of indirect grilling.
The E-310 does not come with a side burner or a sear station like the Genesis E-320 and E-330 models come with. Most people do not use those extra burners but if you think you might like those features, you may want to check out the E-320 or E-330 review. Those grills are designed more for people who want to make the most of their grills while the E-310 is designed more for people who just want a quality grill to cook on.
One thing I like about this grill is that it is more efficient on fuel then some of the other grills out there. It also comes with a cool propane gauge (LP models are the only ones that get this gauge) that does a better job at telling you exactly how much propane you have left then the gauge that comes on the tank does.
I really like this feature and have found it to be really helpful in letting me know exactly how much gas I have before I start a cookout and run out half way through. I hate it when that happens and it has not happened to me yet with this grill (except when I forget to check the gauge LOL!)
I also like how this grill comes in a few different colors and comes in a natural gas and liquid propane version. The colors that it comes in are green, black and copper which will help make your deck or patio really stand out from the crowd. The LP and natural gas models are about the same except obviously the fuel type, but other than that they are basically the same grill.
The natural gas version is a little more pricy and better for someone who has the hookups for it and does not plan on moving it around while the liquid propane version is great for the average griller who does not have the hookups for NG.
Performance Is This Grills Strong Point
So how does this grill perform? Well, the thermometer that is built into the hood of the grill is pretty accurate although I did get a slightly higher temperature reading when I checked the grilling surface with an inferred thermometer.
I was surprised that the built in thermometer was pretty responsive to temperature changes though as some built in thermometers do not give you a good reading at all. When I fired it up it only took about 10 minutes to reach 500 degrees which is less time than other gas grills I have tested in the past so warm up time is pretty good as well.
The cast iron grill grates are what really set this grill apart though. Once they heat up to temp, you can easily sear a steak and leave some great looking grill marks on it. Since it sears well, you lock in all the juices and are able to cook an awesome steak in about 3-8 minutes or so.
I like mine medium done and it comes out really well on these burners which is one of the reasons I like this grill so much. I have notices that many other grills come with wire grates which in many people’s opinions (including my own) just do not work as well as the cast iron grates found on most Weber grills.
What’s Bad About The Genesis E-310
There really is not much negative feedback for this grill and I can say that I have used this grill and have not found anything wrong with it other than the high price. But the fact is you get what you pay for with this grill. While you could go out and buy a gas grill that costs less, you would more than likely be disappointed if you are someone who likes to buy things that are made right.
What Makes This Grill Rock
Aside from the high price, this grill really rocks! Not only is it a high quality grill, but it cooks food way better than most of the other cheaper grills that I have tested in the past. The Genesis E-310 is made in the USA of steel that is coated in porcelain enamel paint which is baked on to make it last longer. The way the paint is baked on instead of just sprayed on will really help keep the paint from burning off and rusting when this grill is really cooking something awesome.
The fact that many people have had their Genesis grills for over a decade is a good indication that this grill will last you a long time and you will get what you paid for many times over. Weber has put quite a bit of thought into the design and construction of this grill and it really shows.
